Post Office Closures
Labour MP’s campaigning locally to keep post offices open, have voted to close them in a vote in the House of Commons last Wednesday. My MP Greg Pope, voted to close the post offices claiming the Conservative motion didn’t show how the post offices would be paid for. Had he attended the debate that lasted all day, from around 1pm until 7pm, he might have recognised that both the Conservatives and the Liberal Democrats were proposing many ideas to make the network profitable, such as allowing competition and increasing the services they offer to the public.
Only a few weeks ago we were deprived of a vote over the EU treaty despite being promised one in Labours 2005 manifesto. This along with the post office hypocrisy is turning people off politics, for they no longer have any idea what to believe when their MP’s say one thing then do another.
I’d like to thank the Labour MP’s who stood by their convictions and voted against post office closures. They have put their constituents first.
Thank-you,
Diane Abbott (Hackney North & Stoke Newington)
Jeremy Corbyn (Islington North)
John Cummings (Easington)
Andrew Dismore (Hendon)
David Drew (Stroud)
Frank Field (Birkenhead)
Paul Flynn (Newport West)
John Grogan (Selby)
Kate Hoey (Vauxhall)
Kelvin Hopkins (Luton North)
John McDonnell (Hayes & Harlington)
Eric Martlew (Carlisle)
Alan Meale (Mansfield)
Gordon Prentice (Pendle)
Alan Simpson (Nottingham South)
Geraldine Smith (Morecambe & Lunesdale)
Sir Peter Soulsby (Leicester South)
David Taylor (Leicestershire North West)
Mike Wood (Batley & Spen)
Independent Labour MP Robert Wareing (Liverpool West Derby) also voted with the Tories.
